Today may be the Harvest Moon, and I will post about that soon, but the 23rd was the second harvest festival of the year—Mabon! It's also known as the Witches' Thanksgiving.
My plans were fairly last-minute, and I was on a budget, but I managed to produce a nice dinner, quality afternoon, and decorations for my altar.
The night before, I baked a pumpkin pie. The filling was from scratch, but the crust was store-bought. I have yet to master pastry! Then early Saturday morning, I started a pot roast in my slow cooker.
We spent the morning relaxing, which was lovely, but around noon, we left for the forest preserve. It was a rainy day, but here in the Pacific Northwest, daily rain is measured in hundredths of an inch. Deep in the forest, light rain wouldn't even make it through the canopy.
When we got to the preserve, we found our normal path into the woods was blocked by a film crew. I still don't know what they were doing, but we explored a different route, one we had never tried in six years! It was incredibly beautiful.
By the time we were leaving, the rain had grown much heavier, but we had enjoyed our hike, and I had collected several leaves for my altar, including one from a big-leaf maple.
We had a wonderful dinner that turned out deliciously. It was my own recipe for pot roast, but the pie was not mine.
There were a lot more potatoes and carrots, but there wasn't room on the plate.
Pumpkin pie is my absolute favorite! This recipe was fantastic, and I can't wait to make it again.
Our day was wonderful, my first time celebrating in fifteen years.
Honestly, it felt like coming home.
Blessed be!
